All About the Great Hall
How do I change my nickname in the chat?
- You can either refresh the page and login again or type "/nick yourNewNickname" in your textbox in the chat (eg. /nick LightNimbus2_Ninja )
How can I be a chat mod?
- We encourage all houses to apply for mod status on the Great Hall and all Gryffindors to apply as mods for both the GH and Prefect Lounge. Sadly mod applications are now closed. We will be releasing the new batch of mods once Pottermore opens to the public.
What does "@" in front of a person's name means?
- That means the person is a moderator.
What does "*" in front of name means?
- That means it's YOUR name.
What does ____ mean?
- If you check our glossary, you'll understand :)
What are PIES and how can we identify them?
- Add an "S" in front and what do you get? :) One can identify them by looking at the recent activity area in the common room. If you notice any one melting cauldrons successively or sending a lot of ingredients to another house then that is a possible PIE. Also check someone's profile too before sending ingredients to them. If you notice that someone has negative points or has a ton of ingredients but is asking in the common room for stuff then that is one dodgy person that must be observed.
What will we do if we notice a PIE?
- Call them out by posting in the common room what they're doing. You can also inform us about it here. Give us the name of the PIE, what he/she did and we'll handle the rest :)
What is "PM"?
- "PM" can mean Private message or Pottermore. Visit our Glossary for a more detailed description.
How do I send or open a Private Message?
- To send one, just double click on the person's name who you want to talk to. To open one, click the yellow envelope beside the person's name.
What's everyone's wand?
- It depends really on who you're asking in the chat... Can't say anything specific because we have variety :))
Why are you guys talking about food all the time?
- That's because we love them pies... and cheesecake... and waffles... and pancakes... and bacon (both the meat and vegetarian kind)
Infinite 20 Questions AGAIN?
- Why? There's nothing wrong with 20q. We have nothing else to do while waiting for potions and besides, it's fun :)
The Acronym Game? What's that?
- This game (which is the brainchild of WildMoon203) is where we take common chat abbreviations (like LOL and OMG) and redefine them using either Harry Potter-related terms and people (eg.OMG which means Oh My God can also mean Obliviate Minds, Gilderoy!) or common terms (eg. Onomatopoeia Means GLOMP)
You guys usually play The Cloak Game... is this about someone?
- This game often occurs when Cloak is lurking. The way the game works is for anyone to post funny or random comments about Cloak and when she comes back, she'll scroll back through the conversation and respond to the best ones which will then be posted here :))
Is everyone crazy all the time?
- Yes, especially if they hadn't had their meds yet :))
Gryffindor Prefects' Lounge
What's the password to the Prefect's Lounge?
I sent in an application to join the Lounge and I haven't received an email for the password yet. Why is that?
- Now why would we post it here? Click here to request it and then just follow instructions :)
I sent in an application to join the Lounge and I haven't received an email for the password yet. Why is that?
- Because of certain security breaches that happened all in the span of a week, you have to now prove that you are indeed an active Gryffindor. If you haven't received an email, that simply means you haven't been cleared yet or might be listed on the Wall of Fail. So always remember to check your junk mail at least 2 weeks after sending an application because we will send you an email as soon as you're in :)
